The #1 Thing That Helps You To Consistently Attract Ideal Clients, In As Little As 1 Hour

Last week in my blog and video, I shared 3 things that prevent people from attracting clients on social media.

If you haven’t seen it yet, you can check it out here

Following on from that, this week I share the ONE main thing that exploded my business, which removes all 3 of these problems.

For the last 13 years I’ve been using this strategy, and it’s the one thing that helps me attract clients, be able to hold their attention and inspire them to take action.

To recap, here are the 3 things that prevent people from attracting clients on social media:

1 – Not Knowing How To Attract People

One of the main reasons people struggle to get clients is not knowing how to ATTRACT people.

Being able to attract people is crucial for growing your business consistently.

The brutal reality is that if you don’t effective attraction skills, you’re probably not going to stay in business very long.

The good news is, like any skill, the skill of being able to ATTRACT clients can be learned.

2 – Not Being Able To Hold People’s Attention

The second reason is not being able to hold their attention. They may get people to like a post, but they can’t hold the attention of people.

People move on fast if you don’t keep their attention. Attention is everything.

Social media is a great way to build connections and relationships, but it’s not a great place to keep people’s attention. It’s a noisy place with lots of distractions. 

There is so much information you need to share to build connection and trust, but most people have a low attention span.

3 – Not Being Able To Inspire People To Take Action

The third reason people struggle to get clients is that they’re not sure how to inspire someone to take action.

This is where a lot of people fall down relying on social media to get clients.

A lot of people think that if they put up content posts with tips on Facebook and Instagram that they will get clients.

But it doesn’t often work that way. You also need to be able to inspire people to take action.

This is why I recommend running events. It’s the best way to get and maintain someone’s attention.

Running Events – The Number 1 Thing That Attracts Ideal Clients Consistently

Running events is like purchasing a ticket to a concert. People turn up and give you their attention for a long period of time, and that’s not possible with social media.

The fastest way to hold someone’s attention for the amount of time needed to build trust and rapport is by running an event.

It could be a free event like a webinar or workshop, online or in person. There’s no way to hold someone’s attention for long on social media or even by reading your blog that compares with running an event.

This is why big companies do live presentations. Like Steve Jobs did with the iPhone. Apple have billions of dollars and they could have marketed in other ways, but they chose to present their new product at a live event.

Learning to present so you can run events is directly related to how successful you’ll be in your business.

Presenting is a learned skill. If you’re not willing to learn the skill, you’ll most likely struggle to stay in business for long.

The problem is a lot of people are scared to learn it because of fear. Fear of rejection, fear of failure, fear of people not showing up,  the fear of looking stupid, not having enough content and not being good enough.

For many years, I’ve encouraged people to run events and I sometime get resistance because of these fears.

If you were with me 14 years ago, you would have found yourself in a studio in a Les Mills gym in New Zealand where I was running a small seminar.

I was training for a bodybuilding competition at the time and learning a whole lot about muscle gain, supplements and protein.

So I went to my gym manager and asked if I can run an event and if she would help me market it.

I was so nervous and scared. I didn’t really know what I was doing. I didn’t know that I needed to structure the event,  how market it correctly, I didn’t really know anything!

I think back about it now and it wasn’t great… but this event positioned me as being different in the gym, because the other personal trainers weren’t doing it.

When you position yourself as a person that’s willing to overcome the fear of presenting, you put yourself ahead of others.

At the moment you don’t have to book a venue or organise food or any of that because we have this awesome technology like Zoom that you can use to run online events.

Running events is so much more powerful than doing Facebook Live videos

On a Facebook Live, there’s no buying behaviour happening. It’s entertaining and educational, but people aren’t looking to buy. There’s different psychology when people register for an event.

You don’t have to be a polished presenter. You can start with a 60-minute webinar – they are very doable. I started from scratch and learned from making mistakes and using trial and error…

When I came to Sydney, I started running little monthly meetup groups in my local library. About 20 people would show up every month. Some of them would go on to become clients and some of them would just keep coming month-to-month and they enjoyed the community.

Events have been the #1 thing that has helped me get booked solid with ideal clients.

One day I was sitting in an event listening to Benjamin J Harvey speak. I remember realising that my events were educating people, but I didn’t have a proper structure or formula. I was just downloading content to people.

I didn’t know how to use frames, the right content, language, or how to effectively influence people and keep their attention.

So I invested in a presenting course because I recognised the importance of it. Presenting is a skill that I want to develop for the rest of my life.

If you want to increase your positioning and your credibility as the authority in your sphere of influence, presenting and holding events is the way to do it. All of your presentations become valuable assets that you can use later.

Presenting is something that will differentiate you from your competition. It will allow you to build massive trust with people and it will help you hold people’s attention and build engagement.

I’ve done over 200 events now. If you saw my very first seminar back in that gym studio all those years ago, you would have seen that I wasn’t confident, I was worried, I had so much fear, I was insecure…

… but I’m so grateful to my past self for giving it a crack.

I’m so blessed that I’ve now had teachers that have taught me how to do it properly.

It gives me a lot of security and certainty to know that whenever I need to get clients, I know that I’ve developed the skill of being able to speak and present and this will always bring me clients.

3 Powerful Online Marketing Methods To Build More Followers, Engagement & Trust

Would you like to know the fastest ways to build more followers, more engagement, and more trust? There are 3 powerful methods that I recommend if you want to attract more clients and build deep connections using online relationship marketing. These are the exact 3 marketing strategies that I used to… * Sell out my programs with my ideal clients that I love working with * Have a steady stream of consistent, quality clients, without the stress or confusion * Grow a 6-figure business as a full-time coach working from home In this video and blog, I unpack these methods and show you how you can get rapid results in your business using these 3 incredibly effective strategies. These take effort and consistency, but they work incredibly well and can catapult and accelerate your results. I call these the 3 online captivation weapons. Here they are:
1 – Compelling Content
The first captivation weapon is compelling content. To grow your business, you need to create consistent content that’s valuable and relevant to your ideal client. It’s the type of content that your ideal client really wants. Being consistent and constantly showing up and giving compelling content builds trust. People get to know you, like you and trust you. We do business with people who we like, who we can trust, and who we feel gets us. There are many people that have signed up with me as a client and said they just feel like I get them and speak their language. There are a lot of people who watched my business over time before they decided to work with me and this built trust due to the consistency. I never used to enjoy doing Facebook Lives. But I decided that I was going to do them consistently. There has to be a time where you get serious about your business and say, ‘I’m doing this and there is no ‘out.’  You have to decide to burn your bridges and go all-out in your business. When I first committed to consistency, I assumed that consistency was going to pay off, but I had no proof. Now, I do! The benefit of consistency is that you build trust with people who don’t know you. You’re not here today and gone tomorrow, you consistently show up because you want to help people. When you’re consistently showing up with compelling content, you get to teach people what you do and you get to teach people new things. Through that, they will realise if they’re a match for you. There’s a piece of research that was done recently where someone did a study that showed it takes seven hours of consuming content for people to make a significant buying decision. So if you’re reposting other people’s quotes, you’re not really building that trust through your own consistent content. You need to start increasing the time you are providing content. If you’re doing Facebook Lives, I encourage you to consider running a 60-minute Zoom event. If you’re already doing 60 minute events, up it to 90-minutes then 2 hours, then commit to running a half-day then a full-day workshop. Running online events and webinars with Zoom is one of the fastest ways to build up connections with people because when people book into an event, they’re more invested. I recommend that you do both written and video content. If you’re better at one than the other, then just start with the type of content you are good at, and you will grow as a content creator the more you do it. The more you put yourself out there doing videos, the less you will need notes, and the less nervous you will be. Video is the way of the future. It’s also the way of NOW. Putting out valuable video content builds your personal brand. You’ll get more people referring you as a go-to expert and you’ll be known as a reliable business owner. One of my clients wanted to build her business, so we worked together. She was so committed to putting out regular content. She kept showing up and she now has over 40,000 followers on Facebook and she got them really quickly! She was genuinely showing up and building her tribe and creating valuable, consistent content. This is the first powerful captivation method
 2 – Crafted Online Events
The second method is creating crafted online events. Events are about organising your knowledge and having actionable steps for people to follow. It’s structured and organised. You don’t have to be a great speaker. You don’t have to be an extrovert (I’m an introvert). You just have to have knowledge that can help people. Repetition is the mother of increasing your skills and it’s the same with running online events. They are so powerful as you can reach more people at one time. You can build rapport and connection with more people at one time by doing online events. It maximises and leverages your time. Every hour that you spend with someone, you could spend that same hour helping 50, 100, or 500+ people via an event. Doing online events allows you to educate people and inspire them. It can open so many new exciting doors of opportunity for you. If you’re willing to run an event, people often start inviting you to speak in their groups and you become known as the go-to expert. I suggested doing online events to one of my clients, Gaynor.  She literally laughed, as she didn’t know how she could find the time, as she had her business and was also a busy mum. I encouraged her to step out and when she did, her results were brilliant. Her first online event brought in $2,368. It was by no means perfect, but she still had people show up and get helped by it. Since using that online strategy she’s gone on to make over $25,000 and now she has an online course. She used to run retreats in the UK and now she’s taken everything online. She never thought she could do it, but she did! It takes work when you first start doing them and organising your knowledge, but the hard road gets easier and the easy road gets harder. Events are SO worth it!
3- Client Attraction Funnels
The third marketing method to build more followers, engagement and trust is to have a client attraction funnel. The thought of a client attraction funnel may freak you out, but they are actually simple once you know how to do it. A funnel is basically an automated way to turn strangers into clients. They are where people can sign up to your services 24/7. They may come across your post on a downloadable freebie that you created. They click to download the freebie and it takes them to a funnel landing page. A landing page is a simple one-page website. The people opt-in, they put their name and email in your funnel and they get your freebie to download. In return, you get their details. You capture people, get their information, and then you can continue to build a relationship with them. A lot of people get my emails and they don’t sign up straight away. But after nurturing them, they come to a point where they are ready to buy. A funnel could also be a landing page that leads people to your event. A funnel could also be a landing page that’s a freebie that people download and they go into your email list and nurture sequence. A nurture sequence is a series of emails that give more help and free gifts. Your ideal client will eventually work out if you are the right match to work with them. Only 3% of people are ready to buy immediately when they come across you. Others need more time to build that rapport with you. A funnel is a way for you to consistently build relationship. You share and give value through your funnel system. The right people will want to keep working with you. These are the people who see that you’ve sufficiently educated them and inspired them to actually take action. These skills are all learnable and at some point, if you want to be a successful business owner, you do need to learn these skills. Remember it’s all about just taking action, and it can be imperfect action. It’s about making a decision and going for it. Do you want help doing this so you can get more clients? The #1 Way To Get MORE Leads in LESS time

Do you want to know the best way to go to the next level with your business growth and income?

I’m about to show you the #1 way to get more leads that become paid clients, in less time and how you can earn a leveraged income.

First, I want to share with you what happened when I first moved to Sydney.

If you were with me in December 2012, you would have found yourself standing in a queue outside the Sydney Convention Centre, now known as the International Convention Centre.

I’d seen an ad on Facebook advertising Mike Tyson as their headline speaker, marketed as an entrepreneurial event.

I was wearing business attire and there were a whole lot of other business people in the queue also that looked to be 18-year-old dudes who were carrying their boxing gloves.

There were thousands of people there and there was speaker after speaker sharing on real estate and how to trade shares on Forex. By mid-afternoon, Mike Tyson still had not come out and people started to get annoyed and started to leave.

By late afternoon, the convention centre cleared out and there was hardly anyone left. But I stayed because I wanted to learn as much as I could. Two guys came on the stage called Jeffrey Slater and Kane Minkus, who had just been on tour with Tony Robbins.

They said they had a whole presentation planned, but because there were not many people left they were going to do a Q & A session instead.

They asked people to raise their hand if they had a question. My hand just went straight up in the air before I could even think.

Saying Yes to Opportunities

The mic runner ran up to me and I didn’t even have a question. I had trained myself to say yes to opportunities, and my hand went up without having anything to say. When he got to me, I stood up and I told them that I really wanted to be a speaker and I would love to have their advice.

They invited me to come onto the stage. I remember standing on the massive stage and they gave me the mic and asked me to share one piece of advice with the crowd.

Run at Your Fears

Sweating and nervous, I took the mic and said that my one piece of advice is to run at your fears because if you run away from them, they keep chasing you.

I’d recently moved countries from London, back to Auckland and then to Sydney. I had barely any money or friends in this new Country so I knew discomfort pretty well.

But I knew I wanted to be a speaker and I knew that I had to follow my heart and my dreams.

At that moment standing on the stage, I realised that speaking at the Sydney Convention Centre was on my vision board and had been there for eight years prior.

On that day, part of that dream was realised. I know I wasn’t the speaker on the day, but two years later I applied to be a speaker at the International Convention Centre for a fitness convention that I had attended many times.

I didn’t think I was qualified enough and I didn’t think I’d be accepted. But I was! In 2017, I spoke at the International Convention Center, and that was the dream coming true from my vision board.

When I stood up on stage the first time at the Mike Tyson conference, I was nervous, shaking and my face was bright red.  But in 2016, I was actually the speaker and I was calm and confident.

The Mike Tyson conference was the day that I realised I wanted to have a platform. It felt so good, even though it was nerve-wracking and I’m an introvert and struggle with being in the limelight.

I was doing a lot of one-to-one training and coaching at the time. But I realised that if you want to leverage your time and make a big impact, then one-to-one is just not going to cut it.

You cannot make a big impact if you’re only working one by one people.

If you want to leverage your time and speed up the process to grow your business, you need to be able to speak one-to- many.

Waking Up Your Identity

Success starts with waking up our identity.

One of my favourite speakers, Benjamin J Harvey talks about waking up your future belonging. It’s like an identity, where there’s a part of you that ‘wakes up’ and realises who you want to be.

That could be an author, a mother, a spiritual advisor, a teacher,  trainer, or an educator, for example.

In 2013, I was sitting in a visionary leadership conference with John DeMartini and Benjamin J Harvey. Again, my future belonging was awoken, as Ben as he said something that really stood out to me.

He said if you’re willing to get on a platform, (it doesn’t necessarily mean physically standing on a stage), but if you’re willing to do the hard thing that most people are not willing to do – public speaking – you separate yourself from your competition.

People on a Mission Have no Competition

If you’re willing to step out and face your fears of public speaking, and if you’re willing to talk about what you love and share your message with the world, you will stand out from your competition.

I definitely had a massive fear of speaking in public. I didn’t even think that I would be able to speak to a room of 10 people in a group workshop, let alone a massive group.

When Ben Harvey shared the impact that you can make from going from a one-to-one model to a one-to-many model, it awakened something inside of me. Instead of thinking “Who am I to do that?” I started to believe “Why not me?”

Why not me? Why could I not do that?

When Ben asked if there were people who wanted to make that change in their business, I put my hand straight up. I put the $495 deposit down for their ‘Present Like a Pro” course, which cost $5,000 at the time.

I didn’t have the money. I had rent coming up, but I found the money. You always find the money for things that are important.

I’ve well and truly made that money back now – I’ve turned that $5,000 into a six-figure coaching business, doing what I love, using mostly the one-to-many model.

The Power of Presenting

The one-to-many model is the #1 way to get more leads in less time.

Running events is an amazing way to get clients and a great way to improve your credibility, improve your expert status, and to leverage your time.

 

And now it’s super easy to do it online.

I resisted doing this as a consistent strategy for ages. But when I finally made a decision and take action, it turned my business around. I’ve now run over 100 online events and 100 in-person events and it’s been the one thing that has made the biggest difference in growing my clients.

If you run an online event, you can speak to 50 or 100 people during that time, instead of speaking to people one at a time.

Running events speeds up the time it’s going to take to reach that many people. If you want to accelerate your success, it’s a no-brainer.

The reason many of us have avoided events for so long is because of fear.

It could be fear of what people might think or fear of failure, fear of judgment, fear of being an imposter, or fear of not knowing enough.

When you decide to show up, despite the fear and when you decide to be the kind of person that does a one-to-many model, rather than a one-to-one model, and you provide great value, success is inevitable.

You can really accelerate and explode your business growth.

I’ve had a growth explosion during COVID-19. I was doing mainly in-person workshops, but I pivoted fast and started doing online workshops.

Holding online events means people from other states and countries can attend.

I recently did a Grace Lever online event that 700 women from all over the world attended and it was brilliant.

I also crewed an Authentic Education online presentation course and coaching course, and 79% of the people said they preferred the online environment, which I found fascinating.

Leverage Your Time, Speed Up Results, Get More Leads and Paid Clients

The one-to-many model is the best way to leverage your time, speed up your results, get more leads and paying clients in a short amount of time.

I’m sure you would love to be able to share a message talking about something you love and have lots of people listen to it. It’s a great way to make money when talking about what you love.

If you want to get clients, you can really only do two things: You can write and get people through your written content, or you can speak and get people through your spoken content, whether that be on video or on audio.

You’re not going to build a business if you don’t create content. Business is about people exchanging value to get a return of investment. So many business people are unwilling to face their fears and step up to make content.

It’s a step-by-step process. You need to learn the skill of presenting, learn to talk on Facebook Lives, and learn the skill of creating influential content.

You can’t just show up and ramble your way through an event. There is a formula and a specific structure you need to follow to make sure that people engage and get value from what you’re sharing.

There’s also a structure to getting them to turn up to your event, which is the first hurdle and that’s where you use marketing.

I predominantly teach my clients marketing and sales, both in written content and in presenting at live or online events and workshops.

You’ve also got to be able to keep them engaged and make sure that they are inspired to take action. It’s about inspiring people to be able to go out there and apply what they’ve learned and that takes a specific structure and formula.

7 Mistakes People Make When Running Online Events

Have you ever thought that you’d like to run online events?

Do you currently run online events and would like to make them better?

Running online events, like webinars or virtual workshops, is one of the fastest ways to attract your ideal clients, especially right now.

Having run over 100 online events, each one getting me clearer and clearer on what works, I’ve tested and measured the best ways to do them effectively and successfully.

There are so many things that you have to think through prior to an online event, like how to best use technology, what marketing to do, how to effectively structure your talk, and how to get people to turn up for your event.

Over the years working with so many different people, I’ve noticed that there are 7 core mistakes that people make when it comes to running online events.

There are some critical things that people get wrong and in this video and article, I unpack them, so you can avoid making the same mistakes.

Before I go into the 7 main mistakes, I want to first share with you 4 reasons why running online events is SO effective:

1 – Online Events Help You Grow Your Email List

Your email list – your database of people – is one of your most valuable assets in business. Obviously we don’t own anyone’s details on social media, Instagram, Facebook or LinkedIn, so it’s important to build your list.

We do this by having landing pages where people can opt in to your event, so that you now have their email address so you can continue to give them value and share other offers with them.

There are always people who sign up for a workshop and don’t turn up, but you’ve got their details and you can continue marketing to them and nurturing them in the future.

2 – With Online Events You Can Speak to More People at One Time

If you’re only ever doing one-on-one coaching, you’re very limited to the impact that you can have.

If you want to make more money, help more people faster, have a bigger reach and make a difference to more people, then online events are a beautiful way to do it.

3 – Online Events Can Help You Get People’s Attention Fast

Holding online events it’s a fast way to get and hold people’s attention. It’s very hard to hold someone’s attention by just a social media post, a blog or even a Facebook Live video.

If you run an event people get to know you, like you, trust you and build rapport with you because they have longer exposure to you, so you can inspire and educate them.

4 – Online Events Raise Your Positioning and Credibility

Your positioning and credibility are increased because not everyone is willing to take the risk of putting themselves out there.

If you’re willing to do this, it puts you more in the position of being an expert. It also enables you to educate and inspire people to take action.

Not everyone’s ready to buy straight away and they need your education so they will see the benefit they will receive when they make a change in their life.

A lot of people are resistant to change, so you can use events to educate people and them overcome their limiting beliefs.

Running online and live events has opened up so many opportunities for me and I get most of my clients through running events.

Online events are not going to go away, in fact they will only grow and ramp up – so now is the time to get in!

Now you know WHY you should be holding online events, here are the 7 mistakes I’ve found people make when running online events:
1 – Not Tailoring the Talk to the Audience

When running online events, I’ve noticed that some people speak on what they want to share, but what is so important is that you tailor the message to your ideal clients.

So you’re not being general or broad, but you’re solving the exact problems that your ideal client has.

I’ve never given a talk where I haven’t asked people for some prior input, like a survey. I’ve asked them what they want to learn about, what their main challenges are, what their dreams and goals are.

At one company I spoke at, I had one of the board of directors sit down and interview all of the instructors and staff. I listened to the recordings and created the talk based on that.

You don’t want to try and just wing it and guess.

If you are giving people what they want, if you’re speaking their language, then they’re going to get so much value from it.

You need to do your research by talking to people, going to networking events, seminars and talking to and listening to people to find out their needs.

You can poll your Facebook community, get people to complete a survey before a coaching session or at the end of a workshop or webinar.

2 – Failing to Set Frames

A frame is something that you build an idea around that you want people to have. For example, when people come to an event, you’ve got to quickly set the frame so everybody is sitting within the same frame.

There’s different types of frames, and they can include things like; the rules about the event, how you want people to behave within the event, and also beliefs that you want people to have through the event.

When people come to my workshops or my webinars, I always have a slide that says, ‘I’ve been at the top like the most successful people’. And then I’ll give a list of things that successful people do.

I put things like, ‘Successful people show up ready to learn, they stay focused, they take lots of notes…’

I’ll read through this list and that is setting a frame of how I want people to show up in that event. And if I miss that slide the event can be a bit chaotic.

I don’t want people to come and just be chilling out. If they have a question I want them to write it down, or put their hand up or write it in the chat box.

There are also frames are around how you want people to behave. There are also logistical frames, so I always have a slide that talks about making this a world-class learning environment and that we keep everyone’s information confidential.

I also let people know they will be put in breakout rooms. There’s also a disclaimer about being able to have participant’s photos taken and things like that, so you set all those frames at the beginning.

The other frames that are really important to mention are beliefs that you want your participants to have. Often I will show my private community Inner Circle’s manifesto which says ‘In the Inner Circle, we are on-mission action-takers. We operate from a growth mindset, we free ourselves from blame, excuses, and denial, we choose to value people, contribute, pursue our vision and loads of fun…’ etc.

This is setting the ‘frame’ that shows participants that in this event, we don’t focus on our excuses, we have an entrepreneurial mindset – we show up, we give things a go, we never give up and we see challenges as an opportunity.

3 – Not Adding Enough Value

I find that people often will not plan their event enough, where they give people ideas or concepts that they haven’t heard before, or they maybe haven’t heard it in a sort of way before. They haven’t really thought through what’s going to be truly valuable.

Value is what gets someone to take an action right away. Are the facts you’re presenting inspiring and educating enough to make people take action? If not, then it’s not valuable.

Value also means spending time practicing, thinking through what is going to be really useful for people. People love examples and stories of others who have taken a concept and put it into action in their life.

People also love templates and they want their questions answered. They want to be able to share with other people. This is all part of adding value.

Value is not squeezing in the content. I once heard someone say that if you squeeze in the content, you squeeze the audience out!

You want to make sure that your content is valuable, that people can apply it right away. And you need to give people plenty of time to think through things also, so they can digest the toolkit of ideas you’ve given them.

4 – Giving Away Too Much Information

This is probably the one that I have found the hardest. I just want to share so much of what I know because I’ve studied this stuff for over a decade and I’ve been in business for 17 years.

If you give too much information, it could be like standing in front of a fire hose to get a cup of water. It’s actually doing your audience a disservice if you give away too much information, because they can’t apply it.

If you say to your audience that they will learn all they need to know from this event, they will leave thinking they know everything and that’s not possible, so it’s doing them a disservice. They also won’t buy from you because they’ve got everything they need.

You also need to create curiosity. It’s called the Zeigarnik Effect and it’s about opening loops in people’s minds, where they actually realise they’ve got to spend more time with you as the educator.

Show them how many hours worth of knowledge there is to know about that subject and one way they can get that knowledge is through using your coaching.

5 – Speaking Without Structure

People want organised knowledge and people pay for organised knowledge. When you’re creating an event and you show up and try and pour out everything you know about the topic, that is a mistake.

You don’t want to just give people a whole heap of content or information and leave people to have to figure out what to do with it. You want to make it digestible and palatable for them, by breaking it down into steps or pillars.

The best speakers in the world have organised the information into a structure. If you think that they’re just winging it and speaking intuitively, believe me – they’re not.

It’s also good to refer people back to the beginning of your talk. You don’t just take them from here all the way from the start to finish, it’s good show them where they are in the system.

You also want to make sure that when you’re delivering your content, you use diagrams and images, so people can see a clear visual of what you’re explaining and show how things fit together.

6 – Being Unprofessional

This goes without saying, we all know that we need to be professional, but what does that look like?

Being professional means:

  • Having a nice quiet environment and making sure your audio is good and clear with no background noise
  • Making sure that you’ve got a good lighting system
  • Setting your computer or tablet up at eye level
  • Making sure you start on time
  • Ensuring you have nice professional PowerPoints, if you’re using slides
  • Practicing your talk before you deliver it

All of this is part of being professional.

This doesn’t mean you can’t be personable though. It really helps to add humour and your personality and flavour to it. Professionalism is not perfectionism. It about giving the most value while still being yourself.

Remember that everyone who comes to your online event or talk knows at least 50 close people that they can potentially refer you to.

Always be thinking that it’s not just the people that show up, but those people potentially know 50 others that you can reach.

Even if just 2 people show up, always give those 2 people your 100%, because if one person makes a change from what you’ve shared, it’s worth it right? And they will tell their friends.

7 – Focusing Too Much on Themselves

People are so self-conscious, they put off running events because they’re so concerned about what people might think of them and they are scared of judgment.

There are fears around if the technology doesn’t work and fears if no one turns up. I’ve had all these fears and different limiting beliefs myself.

Instead of focusing on the fears, focus on the good result possible, not the negatives.

I’m completely detached from who comes to my events. I care about the people attending as people, of course, but I believe that whoever turns up are the people who are meant to be there.

I don’t focus on money, I focus on doing your best work and preparing well for the event and give it your all.

I put aside days and days to create my events. I give myself feedback after events on all the things I could do better next time and I take on board all the feedback that I get from people who attended.

Turn the focus away from yourself and onto focusing on the value you can offer people.

That’s how you grow your business.

5 Ways Presenting Skills Can Grow Your Business

No matter how hard we try, the reality is… it’s getting harder and harder to stand out online. It’s getting more challenging to have people pay attention and stop their scroll and engage in what we’re doing online.
 
Your ability to present and be confident on video, when you’re speaking to people in person and to groups is directly related to your income.
 
And if you’re not great at writing, then you really need to get great at speaking. Because we need to share our words for people to get to know us. 
 
There are only two ways that we can communicate with our clients. Either through writing or by speaking. And obviously there’s body language and all the other things that come into it, but those are the two main ways we communicate.
 
A lot of people tell me, “I don’t want to write blogs, I don’t have time to write blogs.”
 
So if you don’t want to spend your time writing blogs, and if you’re not naturally a great writer, if you haven’t studied the art and the science of copywriting, which is writing to influence, then you need to get good at presenting.
I’m very passionate about helping people with their presenting skills, because we all know that the online space is getting more and more crowded.
Presenting to a group is the best way to leverage your time because if you’re still doing one-to-one, it takes a long time, my friend, I’m sure you’ve realised that.
You will not have the massive impact that you want to have in the world if you keep going one by one by one by one.
 
I realised this when I was a Personal Trainer in the U.K. I had been to so many different conventions and conferences and seminars, and I remember watching the speaker on stage time after time after time.
 
And I remember thinking, “I want to do that, but I’m scared. I don’t want to get up in front of all those people. I’m an introvert, I don’t have the skills, I’ve got massive anxiety around getting up in front of people.”
 
I remember having all these limiting beliefs around it, all these fears around speaking to groups, I was so nervous about it.
 
But I got to that point where I was just fed up, and I remember watching this speaker, and he was not a good speaker, but he got so many people engaged.
 
And I remember thinking, “I reckon I could do a better job than him, but all he’s doing is he’s confident and he’s owning it. And so I want to learn the craft, I want to learn how to speak like that so that I am not going one by one by one.”
 
I was only doing one-on-one personal training at that stage. I’d done a little bit of group, but not to the level that I wanted, and I kept falling back on one-on-one because it’s where I felt confident and comfortable.
 
Maybe you relate. Maybe you’re working one-on-one with clients, but you know that your time is limited, that you want to have more freedom.
 
Especially if you’re working closely with people, it can be quite draining doing long hours. So you kind of set yourself up for a job, instead of setting yourself up as a business where you can work less and make more money.
 
So I decided that day, “I’m going to learn this craft, no matter what it costs me, no matter how much time and money I’ve got to spend, how much fear I’ve got to overcome, I’m going to do it.”
 
If you think about it, 50 years ago we had to only work with people in person.
 
But now we have the ability to reach thousands, millions of people by doing Facebook Lives, by doing YouTube clips, by doing podcasts.
 
We’ve got the ability to reach a lot of people and take our message way further away, to way more people that actually need help, right?
When I moved to Sydney in 2012, I barely knew anyone here. I had a couple of acquaintances, but it didn’t have a network of people or friends, I didn’t have any clients.
 
One of the first things I did was go to an event that was run by Shaune Clark, and he was running an event called Six Figure Speaker Training.
 
And I went along, it was a half-day, it was $97, and something dropped. I thought, “Yeah, you are going to teach me how to present.”
 
So I signed up for his course, it was about $3,000, thank you Shaune, shout out to you.
 
And it helped me change my whole thinking around how to craft a message.
I went on to do 4 other presenter training courses and they have all totally changed my business and changed me.
 
So I want to share with you five ways that you can use presenting to grow your business as well, and how presenting skills will help you make more money.
 
It’s the skillset that you learn and the mindset that you learn will help you make a lot more money and help you impact a lot more people and reach a lot more people.
So here are five ways that presenting skills can help you grow your business:
 
#1: Presenting skills help you get attention
 
We are in the attention economy where we’re all fighting for attention. Not like, “Look at me, look at me,” but, “Stop and engage with my post,” because people are scrolling so fast, they’re like this.
 
You see it on public transport, people waiting in queues at shops, they’re scrolling. You literally get a few seconds to grab people’s attention. So online is very difficult.
 
I am a huge advocate for positioning yourself correctly online and doing online marketing, you need to.
 
But I also advocate, not just online, but offline strategies, combining presenting together with online marketing.
 
If you get those two together, boom, a powerful combination. It helps you get attention.
 
Because if you are willing to put yourself on a platform, which most of the population are not willing to do because they’re scared of it, public speaking is apparently the number one fear.
 
So because most of your competitors are not willing to do it, you will get the attention because you’re actually positioning yourself as someone who is willing to stand out and be outstanding, and not just blend in with the crowd and everyone else online, right?
 
So you get attention.
 
There’s a new study done that shows that we actually need seven hours, we need to produce seven hours, of content, people need to consume seven hours of us before they make a significant buy-in decision.
 
Seven hours.
That’s a lot of Facebook posts, it’s a lot of doing Facebook Live videos, it’s a lot of blogs, it’s a lot of emails.
 
Whereas if you run a workshop for one day, your seven hours are done. It’s done in one day, so you can get people to sign up for your offers and your programs in a very short period of time by running the workshop.
 
And that was how I kind of got started, by going out of the one-on-one model, was running small little seminars at my gym. I ran them in the empty studio at my gym and had people come along, and I taught them what I knew, I was teaching on nutrition at the time.
 
But then when I moved to Sydney, I would hire my local library, Gladesville library, and I paid $18 an hour and had people come in, and I taught them stuff.
 
So that’s where I started out. And now I’ve run over 100 workshops and I’ve tested and measured the things that work in business.
 
There are lots of things that do work, there are a lot of things that don’t work, so I’ve made a lot of mistakes.
 
And it’s why I love teaching people this now because there are a lot of things you can do wrong.
 
A lot of people have fear about people not showing up, so there are strategies that you need to do to make sure that people come, that you get people in the room.
 
But it’s one of the fastest ways to get people’s attention. It’s very hard to get people’s attention unless you have a massive brand or you have a big budget behind you for Facebook Ads, right?
 
So if you’re starting out, it’s a very cheap way to get started fast and get clients fast.
 
#2: It gives you the ability to connect deeply with people
 
Before I was running events, I was stuck behind my laptop so much of the time, and I wasn’t spending enough time getting to know what people wanted.
 
I was just dealing with people one by one by one, and I also had this comfortable group of clients that I’d had for years.
 
I used to have my clients for years, so I wasn’t really improving my ability to connect with people and be able to influence large groups of people, all different types of people because I was kind of stuck in this comfortable one-by-one model.
 
I was very good at my very safe little world with my clients that were one-on-one.
 
Whereas now I can talk to so many different types of people. I know how to read an audience, I know how to keep people engaged, and it’s improved my people skills so much.
 
I never used to be a people person. I remember at my granddad’s funeral years ago, I got up and said, “I don’t like people very much. They are not many people that I like, but I like my granddad.”
 
I can’t believe I said that!
 
I love people now. I absolutely love people, and presenting has helped that so much. And to be successful in business, you have to like people. You have to, it’s essential because business is about relationships. Every time you make money, there’s a person who’s put that money into your account, right?
 
Business is about relationships. So it’s a great skill, to be able to connect deeply with people.
 
#3: It helps you to be able to influence authentically
 
Authentic influence is helping people create positive change in their life. And you do it ethically, and genuinely.
 
It’s not manipulating people to do what they don’t want to do.
That’s not what true influence is about, it’s about helping people get what they want, solving their problems for them.
 
It’s about finding out what they want to avoid, become, what they create, reduce, and get away from. That is influence; helping them overcome their fears and their false beliefs. That’s part of the skillset of presenters.
 
A big part of presenting is actually helping people overcome the things that are holding them back from getting what they want.
 
And that’s a very important skill that you can develop as a business owner, and one of the fastest ways to do it is to do it to a group.
 
You don’t have to be on a big platform, but to be able to get in front of group people.
 
The more I do videos, the more I do workshops, the more my ability to influence improves, by mastering the craft, by doing it and doing it and doing it.
 
Also, because I’m doing it, I’m always going to seminars and learning about the craft of influence to get better at it. So that’s something that presenting gives you a massive advantage in your business.
 
#4: It helps you to be able to speak with confidence
I don’t know about you, but I never used to want to get up and speak in front of people. I never wanted to do Facebook Lives, that was the freakiest thing ever, I refused to do it for ages until I realised it was here to stay and it wasn’t going away.
 
But I’m so grateful now, because now I can confidently speak.
 
The other day I was at an event and they said, “Right, we’re going to divide the room into four,” it was a massive conference room, they divided us into four groups and they said, “One of you from each of the four groups,” there were probably about 150 people in the room, “One of you is going to get up on stage.”
 
And I thought, “That’s me. I want to get up on stage.” Any opportunity to get up on stage, to help get closer and closer to that confident person that I want to be in every situation.
 
So I put my hand straight up, and went on stage and spoke, and it was incredible. A few years back, before I had been presenting and running workshops, I wouldn’t have done that. So it’s increased my confidence a lot. I used to be super shy, introverted, and not have any confidence at all. I would go red, I would shake, I’d be so nervous.
 
But it’s not a talent, presenting is not a talent. It’s training.
 
I’ve been trained, I’ve practiced and practiced and practiced, and that’s how I can now speak in front of lots of people and not get nervous at all. I love it.
 
#5: It helps you attract your ideal clients
 
This is something that I talk about all the time with my clients.
 
If you want to attract your ideal clients, one of the fastest ways to do it is to position yourself as someone who’s not afraid, someone who’s taking bold actions, someone who’s willing to do the hard things.
 
And one of the hardest things that you will ever overcome is your ability to stand in front of a group and risk being rejected and put on your own event. It’s not easy, it’s not for everyone.
 
But if you know that you’re not like everyone, that you don’t want to be mediocre, if you know you want to be one of those ambitious people that is a one-percenter…
…someone willing to stand up and have something to say, to have an opinion, to risk having haters, then the world is your oyster.
 
Every entrepreneur who’s successful has some haters, doubters, people who do the ‘thumbs down’ thing on YouTube.
 
If you’re willing to risk that, presenting is your golden ticket, it really is.
 
So those are the five things. Get attention, connect deeply with people, influence authentically, speak with confidence, and attract your ideal clients.
You have a message that the world can benefit from, that the world is actually waiting for.
No one can express it like you, and if you don’t present it, then the world loses it.
 
Because your unique combination of skills, abilities, stories, experiences, they are unique, and that’s what makes you outstanding, that’s what differentiates you from the rest of the market.
