How To Create A 6-Figure Coaching Business (Without Doing ‘All The Things’)

What does it really take to grow a 6-figure coaching business?

If you’ve been coaching for a while, you’re probably a great coach. But if you want to create a six-figure coaching business, the question to ask is… is being a great coach enough to get you reliable, consistent clients?

In theory, anyone can become a coach. Coaching is generally the easier part. It’s the business of coaching that’s more complex.

The successful coaches I know (myself included) have created success predominately because of our business skills. Understanding the business side is what makes a difference between making it or not making it as a business owner.

I know I’m a great coach. But that’s not the main reason I grew my business to earn 6 figures annually. It happened because I got as good at business as I am at coaching. And because I am, I can help WAY more people.

So I’m going to share some of the mistakes I made and also the common mistakes I see coaches making.

Successful coaches have mastered the art and science of marketing and selling.

You might be thinking that you don’t like sales or marketing. Or you may not want to come across as pushy.

I get it. But here’s the good news.

To become a 6-figure coach, you don’t need to be an expert marketer, do cold pitching, chase people or hustle… You don’t need run ads or even have a website!

You certainly don’t need to work longer hours, grunting and grinding away on things you don’t enjoy. Otherwise, you can burn out & become a slave to your business.

But you DO need to take the things off your to-do list that aren’t moving the needle forward and focus on doing the right things.

If you want to generate a consistent flow of quality leads you need a proven strategy…

…so you can finally stop the frustration of wondering where your clients are going to come from… and start consistently earning 10k+ per month, reliably and predictably.
 
After being in business for 18 years and trying so many different things, I’ve discovered there are just 5 things you need to focus on to grow your coaching business to six figures.

1 – Design A Client Attraction Strategy

The first thing you need is a strategy to attract your ideal clients consistently. For this attraction phase to work, you’ve got to remember that people buy for their reasons, not yours.

When I started out in business, I was a personal trainer, then a health coach, a mindset coach.

When I decided to become a business coach, I didn’t want to let go of all this knowledge I had acquired in these other areas. I tried to position myself to do way too many things, and it just didn’t work.  

Choosing a focused niche may feel like you are closing doors, but the truth is many more doors will open to the right people.

When I chose to become more focused on a niche, it closed doors to some potential clients, but it opened doors to way more people and opportunities. Having a clear niche can activate a fear of missing out, and fear and worry that you may not get enough clients.

The coolest thing is when you step into the specificity of a niche, it helps convey to people specifically how you help them, which actually draws MORE people to you. It helps you to elaborate on a clear problem that you solve.

Being vague and non-specific does not work, especially in the attraction phase. If you want to level up your business to 6 figures, you need to have the willingness to solve a clear specific problem.

To do this means really stepping up in terms of the way you view yourself and position yourself as an expert and authority. It does require a level of courage to do this, especially if you are not feeling that confident yet.

A lot of coaches are creating content when they don’t have clarity on the problem they solve… and they are wondering why it’s not working for them. The lack of clarity will reflect on your marketing, and how you’re creating your content.

Once you make the decision to niche (even if you’re worried about it), you will find people respond better, because you are being clear on the specific problem you help people with and the way you journey people to the solution.

2 – Craft A Profitable Presentation

The next thing you need to do to consistently hit six figures, is to craft a profitable presentation. A profitable presentation is a very powerful asset.

Written content is important. But for most coaches, written content alone, like blogs, emails, and social media captions rarely is enough to attract clients consistently.

Written content alone doesn’t always inspire and influence someone to make a decision to work with you.  Unless you’re a really great writer, written content does a poor job of converting people consistently.

If you want people to trust you, you need time with them. In order to build trust, you need to ask for time, however long it takes for people to go from cold to sold.

The reason people give you time is that you offer to educate them. Otherwise how else are you going to get their time?

It’s very challenging to get more than 60 minutes of someone’s time on social media. So an online event is a win/ win scenario for both you and the person attending your online event.

To take someone from cold to sold, you must build trust and building trust requires someone having time with you.

You ask them to give you their time, and in return, you’ll give them education for free.

During this time with them, you’re building trust and showing them how you help people.

The most powerful strategy I’ve discovered for attracting clients is to combine great content with a great presentation.

Having an effective presentation:

  1. Keeps people’s attention
  2. Creates more trust
  3. Positions you as an authority
  4. Helps you overcome people’s false beliefs
  5. Inspires people to take action
  6. Is highly leveraged to save you time
  7. Builds your email list

Doing just one-on-one coaching doesn’t give you that leverage. When you’re willing to get on a platform, even if it’s a platform like Zoom online, immediately your authority level goes up.

In an online event Zoom event, you have time to shift people’s beliefs and objections to buying.

Rather than having 50 sales conversations which would take 50 hours of your time, you can have that same value speaking to 50 people all at once. Can you see how leveraged having a profitable presentation is?

It’s challenging to just keep doing one-on-one coaching and get to 6 figures annually. The fastest way to do it is by having a combination of having a profitable presentation and compelling content.

3 – Create Compelling Content

You can have an incredible program or service, but without compelling content, it’s like having a Porsche but leaving it in your garage. You won’t get very far.

The marketplace has shifted to be more education-based and the cool thing about this new marketplace is that if you enjoy teaching, training, and educating people, you’re in a good position to inspire people to take action.

People don’t really care about your product or program. They just want to know that you’re able to give them what they desire, and this is where you can show them that you’re the expert and you do this through educating them with your content.

You also do this by using your content to shift their beliefs. Your content needs to clearly show someone what you recommend in order to get from Point A to Point B. Which you’ll notice is what I’m doing right now in this blog.

Use your content to shift beliefs in your ideal clients from what they currently believe to what you want them to believe and educating them is key to this.

When you take the time to educate your clients, it can really dramatically shift your business.

When you create consistent content, you’re educating people on why you’re different. You’re also changing their beliefs from what they currently believe, to what you want them to believe. And you do this in order to have them take that next step to work with you.

Not doing this was a massive mistake that I made. (I made mistakes in all the 5 areas that I’m talking about today!)

I didn’t realise you need a formula and strategy to create compelling content that inspires action. I used to just wing it.

I would literally just write a blog, without having any structure or any formula.

I’d just show up and throw up (as they say.) I’d do Facebook Live videos that didn’t have a plan or proper structure.

The purpose of your content is to educate people and inspire them to take action.

4 – Build An Automated Funnel

When you’re building a coaching business to 6-figures, there are two distinct paths you can go down.

One is working manually, which means you just keeping up as best as you can with your never-ending to-do list.

Or, you can choose the second path, which is building a funnel, which is an asset.

A funnel is a path that people go through where they come into your email list by putting their name and email to access free content. You then take them through a process of nurturing them until they know, like, and trust you and then if they’re the right match, invite them to become your paid client.

This is what so many of your competitors are not doing because it takes some thought and learning, which can be scary or overwhelming. But it’s one of the most powerful ways to have a sustainable, successful business.

What so many coaches do is start their business manually, which is how most of us start out, but then they attempt for the rest of the business’s life to keep running it manually.

Using funnels to automate your business equals freedom.

If you haven’t already decided, please decide that you’re going to stop running your business manually.  

Automation equals freedom.

This makes a huge difference in terms of the financial capacity and lifestyle your business can bring you. Rather than consuming and reacting, you create and build a profitable, scalable asset. 

Because I know how to create funnels, I can be out running, get an idea, come home and have a funnel up online within a few hours.

It’s incredible because you can build a funnel that generates a lot of income without doing a lot of work.

If you don’t have an automated funnel in place, there’s only so far you can go.  Everything is capped. Your sales, your profit, your growth, your lifestyle – everything is limited. 

Some people think it looks too hard, but what’s worse? Running a business that sucks the life and soul out of you, because you’re so stressed out and doing everything manually? Or taking the time to upskill and automate your business?

I use ClickFunnels for this, as I’ve found it’s one of the best landing page builders and funnel builders in the world, and I trust it. I’ve had people say to me they don’t want to pay for a subscription, but all you need to do is have one client and that pays for a whole year’s subscription.

I’ve got 20 different funnels working for me. I have webinar funnels, lead magnets, and my online courses hosted there also. This gives me so much freedom.

I love taking time to have holidays. I bought a timeshare over 10 years ago and if I didn’t have funnels in place, I wouldn’t be able to take so many holidays.

To me, taking the time to set up automation is a no-brainer. When you have a funnel in place, you no longer have peaks and troughs leaving money on the table.  

But, when you build an automated funnel, you have the capacity to generate a consistent lead flow. 

5 – Develop A High-Performance Mindset

To create a successful coaching business … and by success, I’m talking about a business that fills your bank account and your soul… you need to develop a high-performance mindset.

You have to constantly level up your mindset. A high-performance mindset is focused on taking charge of your life and business. It’s about being a leader. 

You can’t wait for a miracle, a sign, a rescuer, or a lucky break. You have to create it yourself. It starts with being intentional about what you want from your life and then building your business around that.

 It’s really important that you figure out what you want in your ideal life, and then take actions towards making that come true. From there, you can put the proper structures in place.

You can’t wait for a rescuer or a lucky break. You have to create your opportunities yourself and that starts with being intentional.

Structures create outcomes.

Having structures like systems, strategy, and support in place is what builds a sustainable business around your vision.

Hustling 16 hours a day might sound impressive, but it’s not healthy. Manageability is crucial. And this always starts with your mindset.

When I started out, I acted like I was a 6-figure business owner before I had the money in the bank. I believed so deeply that it would happen for me, and because of that, I was able to step into the mindset of a 6-figure business owner and take action as they would. 

Back then when I made investments, hired team members, or made any major decisions around my business, I always asked myself what would a 6-figure business owner do?  Then I did that.

This meant never accepting anything less than everything I want.

A high-performance mindset is willing to take risks. It’s an abundance mindset. It’s charging what you’re worth, not allowing yourself to stress out about money, and knowing that there are always clients.

You have to believe that you’re going to find a way to make things work.  You can’t play safe or be timid. You’ve got to make quick decisions and put yourself out there.

I see so many Facebook groups where people are saying they are looking for someone to contribute to their book or to speak at events. There will be hundreds of people putting their hand up, and I wonder why these people aren’t putting out their own books and sharing their knowledge in their own events.

It’s not that hard to do. It’s just about being willing to do it.

You’ve got to take risks. You’ve got to know your ‘why’. It’s about deciding specifically who you want to serve, how you want to spend your time (based on what you enjoy), and how you want your business to feel.

I fully trust in my work ethic, I trust myself and back myself.

I know that I’m going to make a way, even if there does not look like there is a way. I’m going to find a way to make things work. I don’t play safe. I’m not afraid to put myself out there, even though I don’t always feel confident.

That’s what high-performance business owners do.

When you get off the merry-go-round of chasing quick fixes, and step from a place of scarcity into an abundance mindset, you will create something truly great in this world.

In order to go faster, sometimes we need to slow down and learn a different way of doing things.

7 Mistakes People Make When Running Online Events

Have you ever thought that you’d like to run online events?

Do you currently run online events and would like to make them better?

Running online events, like webinars or virtual workshops, is one of the fastest ways to attract your ideal clients, especially right now.

Having run over 100 online events, each one getting me clearer and clearer on what works, I’ve tested and measured the best ways to do them effectively and successfully.

There are so many things that you have to think through prior to an online event, like how to best use technology, what marketing to do, how to effectively structure your talk, and how to get people to turn up for your event.

Over the years working with so many different people, I’ve noticed that there are 7 core mistakes that people make when it comes to running online events.

There are some critical things that people get wrong and in this video and article, I unpack them, so you can avoid making the same mistakes.

Before I go into the 7 main mistakes, I want to first share with you 4 reasons why running online events is SO effective:

1 – Online Events Help You Grow Your Email List

Your email list – your database of people – is one of your most valuable assets in business. Obviously we don’t own anyone’s details on social media, Instagram, Facebook or LinkedIn, so it’s important to build your list.

We do this by having landing pages where people can opt in to your event, so that you now have their email address so you can continue to give them value and share other offers with them.

There are always people who sign up for a workshop and don’t turn up, but you’ve got their details and you can continue marketing to them and nurturing them in the future.

2 – With Online Events You Can Speak to More People at One Time

If you’re only ever doing one-on-one coaching, you’re very limited to the impact that you can have.

If you want to make more money, help more people faster, have a bigger reach and make a difference to more people, then online events are a beautiful way to do it.

3 – Online Events Can Help You Get People’s Attention Fast

Holding online events it’s a fast way to get and hold people’s attention. It’s very hard to hold someone’s attention by just a social media post, a blog or even a Facebook Live video.

If you run an event people get to know you, like you, trust you and build rapport with you because they have longer exposure to you, so you can inspire and educate them.

4 – Online Events Raise Your Positioning and Credibility

Your positioning and credibility are increased because not everyone is willing to take the risk of putting themselves out there.

If you’re willing to do this, it puts you more in the position of being an expert. It also enables you to educate and inspire people to take action.

Not everyone’s ready to buy straight away and they need your education so they will see the benefit they will receive when they make a change in their life.

A lot of people are resistant to change, so you can use events to educate people and them overcome their limiting beliefs.

Running online and live events has opened up so many opportunities for me and I get most of my clients through running events.

Online events are not going to go away, in fact they will only grow and ramp up – so now is the time to get in!

Now you know WHY you should be holding online events, here are the 7 mistakes I’ve found people make when running online events:
1 – Not Tailoring the Talk to the Audience

When running online events, I’ve noticed that some people speak on what they want to share, but what is so important is that you tailor the message to your ideal clients.

So you’re not being general or broad, but you’re solving the exact problems that your ideal client has.

I’ve never given a talk where I haven’t asked people for some prior input, like a survey. I’ve asked them what they want to learn about, what their main challenges are, what their dreams and goals are.

At one company I spoke at, I had one of the board of directors sit down and interview all of the instructors and staff. I listened to the recordings and created the talk based on that.

You don’t want to try and just wing it and guess.

If you are giving people what they want, if you’re speaking their language, then they’re going to get so much value from it.

You need to do your research by talking to people, going to networking events, seminars and talking to and listening to people to find out their needs.

You can poll your Facebook community, get people to complete a survey before a coaching session or at the end of a workshop or webinar.

2 – Failing to Set Frames

A frame is something that you build an idea around that you want people to have. For example, when people come to an event, you’ve got to quickly set the frame so everybody is sitting within the same frame.

There’s different types of frames, and they can include things like; the rules about the event, how you want people to behave within the event, and also beliefs that you want people to have through the event.

When people come to my workshops or my webinars, I always have a slide that says, ‘I’ve been at the top like the most successful people’. And then I’ll give a list of things that successful people do.

I put things like, ‘Successful people show up ready to learn, they stay focused, they take lots of notes…’

I’ll read through this list and that is setting a frame of how I want people to show up in that event. And if I miss that slide the event can be a bit chaotic.

I don’t want people to come and just be chilling out. If they have a question I want them to write it down, or put their hand up or write it in the chat box.

There are also frames are around how you want people to behave. There are also logistical frames, so I always have a slide that talks about making this a world-class learning environment and that we keep everyone’s information confidential.

I also let people know they will be put in breakout rooms. There’s also a disclaimer about being able to have participant’s photos taken and things like that, so you set all those frames at the beginning.

The other frames that are really important to mention are beliefs that you want your participants to have. Often I will show my private community Inner Circle’s manifesto which says ‘In the Inner Circle, we are on-mission action-takers. We operate from a growth mindset, we free ourselves from blame, excuses, and denial, we choose to value people, contribute, pursue our vision and loads of fun…’ etc.

This is setting the ‘frame’ that shows participants that in this event, we don’t focus on our excuses, we have an entrepreneurial mindset – we show up, we give things a go, we never give up and we see challenges as an opportunity.

3 – Not Adding Enough Value

I find that people often will not plan their event enough, where they give people ideas or concepts that they haven’t heard before, or they maybe haven’t heard it in a sort of way before. They haven’t really thought through what’s going to be truly valuable.

Value is what gets someone to take an action right away. Are the facts you’re presenting inspiring and educating enough to make people take action? If not, then it’s not valuable.

Value also means spending time practicing, thinking through what is going to be really useful for people. People love examples and stories of others who have taken a concept and put it into action in their life.

People also love templates and they want their questions answered. They want to be able to share with other people. This is all part of adding value.

Value is not squeezing in the content. I once heard someone say that if you squeeze in the content, you squeeze the audience out!

You want to make sure that your content is valuable, that people can apply it right away. And you need to give people plenty of time to think through things also, so they can digest the toolkit of ideas you’ve given them.

4 – Giving Away Too Much Information

This is probably the one that I have found the hardest. I just want to share so much of what I know because I’ve studied this stuff for over a decade and I’ve been in business for 17 years.

If you give too much information, it could be like standing in front of a fire hose to get a cup of water. It’s actually doing your audience a disservice if you give away too much information, because they can’t apply it.

If you say to your audience that they will learn all they need to know from this event, they will leave thinking they know everything and that’s not possible, so it’s doing them a disservice. They also won’t buy from you because they’ve got everything they need.

You also need to create curiosity. It’s called the Zeigarnik Effect and it’s about opening loops in people’s minds, where they actually realise they’ve got to spend more time with you as the educator.

Show them how many hours worth of knowledge there is to know about that subject and one way they can get that knowledge is through using your coaching.

5 – Speaking Without Structure

People want organised knowledge and people pay for organised knowledge. When you’re creating an event and you show up and try and pour out everything you know about the topic, that is a mistake.

You don’t want to just give people a whole heap of content or information and leave people to have to figure out what to do with it. You want to make it digestible and palatable for them, by breaking it down into steps or pillars.

The best speakers in the world have organised the information into a structure. If you think that they’re just winging it and speaking intuitively, believe me – they’re not.

It’s also good to refer people back to the beginning of your talk. You don’t just take them from here all the way from the start to finish, it’s good show them where they are in the system.

You also want to make sure that when you’re delivering your content, you use diagrams and images, so people can see a clear visual of what you’re explaining and show how things fit together.

6 – Being Unprofessional

This goes without saying, we all know that we need to be professional, but what does that look like?

Being professional means:

  • Having a nice quiet environment and making sure your audio is good and clear with no background noise
  • Making sure that you’ve got a good lighting system
  • Setting your computer or tablet up at eye level
  • Making sure you start on time
  • Ensuring you have nice professional PowerPoints, if you’re using slides
  • Practicing your talk before you deliver it

All of this is part of being professional.

This doesn’t mean you can’t be personable though. It really helps to add humour and your personality and flavour to it. Professionalism is not perfectionism. It about giving the most value while still being yourself.

Remember that everyone who comes to your online event or talk knows at least 50 close people that they can potentially refer you to.

Always be thinking that it’s not just the people that show up, but those people potentially know 50 others that you can reach.

Even if just 2 people show up, always give those 2 people your 100%, because if one person makes a change from what you’ve shared, it’s worth it right? And they will tell their friends.

7 – Focusing Too Much on Themselves

People are so self-conscious, they put off running events because they’re so concerned about what people might think of them and they are scared of judgment.

There are fears around if the technology doesn’t work and fears if no one turns up. I’ve had all these fears and different limiting beliefs myself.

Instead of focusing on the fears, focus on the good result possible, not the negatives.

I’m completely detached from who comes to my events. I care about the people attending as people, of course, but I believe that whoever turns up are the people who are meant to be there.

I don’t focus on money, I focus on doing your best work and preparing well for the event and give it your all.

I put aside days and days to create my events. I give myself feedback after events on all the things I could do better next time and I take on board all the feedback that I get from people who attended.

Turn the focus away from yourself and onto focusing on the value you can offer people.

That’s how you grow your business.

5 Ways to Future-Proof Your Business

We’re in interesting times and things are changing day-by-day. More than ever we need to be investing in our businesses by keeping up with trends, the current technology that’s available to us as business owners, and making sure that we’re not getting left behind.

If you’ve ever had thoughts about whether you want to go into business full time, part-time or have a side hustle for yourself, then you’ve probably thought about the fact that the world is changing a lot at the moment.

You may have questioned what this means for business owners? We’ve always got to be up-skilling and keeping current, so here are 5 ways that you can make sure that you future-proof your business.

Number 1 – Be Tech Savvy

Technology is evolving at a rapid rate, and if we want to future-proof our business, we’ve got to be able to keep up with it. As a business owner, here are 3 things I recommend you’re on top of regarding technology.

1. Video

Doing videos is important, especially at the moment as we can’t run live events. It’s so important that you get your skills up to speed with video software, Facebook Lives, plus online platforms like Zoom, where you can have group chats and conversations online.

There are so many amazing functionalities with Zoom. I was crewing and assisting in a coaching certification course over the last six days, where there were about 70 participants on the Zoom call. The International Coaching Federation changed their rules during the COVID-19 season, to be able to qualify coaches online.

We are now in a world where people can coach each other in an online platform, and I was able to jump into the different breakout rooms and assist and help people by observing their 1-1 coaching. It went from 10 am to 6:30 pm for six days.

At the end, they did a poll and 79% of people said that they enjoyed doing the event online, more than they did the live event, which I found fascinating.

It’s so important that you stay up to speed with technology and you don’t have to be a total tech whiz either. There are so many programs that are really user friendly, but you’ve got to learn it.

2. A C.R.M System  

I also recommend that you make sure that you have a C.R.M (a customer relationship management system). It’s so essential to being able to email your clients in a professional and effective way.

Using a platform like Mail Chimp, you can separate out your audiences, segment your email list and target different people for different needs.

You can automate your emails and link it all to your other platforms.

And you CAN have a really automated business that runs smoothly and streamlined without losing a quality client experience.

3. Funnels

You also want to make sure you have landing page software. I love using ClickFunnels, it’s by far is the one that I find most user friendly, and it has most functionality for what I want to do.

I host my webinars, online course, and landing pages for 1-1 sessions, freebies, and events on ClickFunnels and it’s all automated and synced to auto-responders.

Funnels are life-changing! They allow simple automation and save LOADS of time.

I never thought that I would be the kind of person that would sit down and learn how to create marketing funnels, but I’m so grateful that I have because now I’ll get an idea, create the landing page in the funnel and everything is all set up.

I can do it in about 45 minutes now from start to finish. From an idea that I have in my head, all the way through to having the funnel set up in less than an hour.

4. Online Calendar

Automation is key with business. You want to make sure that you’ve got an online calendar that people can easily book in with you and also change appointments. I use Calendly and really like the functionality of it.

It saves loads of time going back and forth with people, and means people are more likely to book in because they’re doing it on the spot, rather than waiting for you to get back to them. It’s a game-changer.

5. Online Payment Processing

Having an effective online payment system is something you need when looking at automation, so you can take payments from people – and not end up being a bank! You don’t want to chase people for money. You want that system to be seamless.

You want to be able to send invoices to people, and it’s all done in an automated way rather than manually, so you save loads of time.

I promise you the technology is there, you can do it, but you do need to up-skill in that area.

Automation is an important key for how we future-proof our business. There can be a lot to learn, but if we don’t we’re just going to be left behind.

Number 2 – Build Your Personal Brand

Building your personal brand is so important.

A brand isn’t a logo, it’s not your pretty colours. That’s part of your branding. The most important thing in branding is that you’re showing up that you are giving value, and that you are helping people.

You are providing value with your content, your videos and through your writing.  It takes intentionality.

You always need to be visible, out there and talking to your people. There’s a tribe of people that you are here to serve.

You need to grow and develop your community and be a community leader. Step up as a thought leader. You have skills, knowledge, experience, stories, hard work and personality that makes up who you are and your brand.

No one is like you, as no one can do it the way you do it. No one has got your unique D.N.A, your unique mission here on this planet.

People are struggling and you can help them. You help people by showing up to your Facebook group and to your communities online, jumping onto video so that people can connect with you, giving value to your community – it’s all part of building your personal brand.

Number 3 – Extend Your Network

At the moment, we’re not going to in-person business breakfasts, seminars, workshops or conferences, but we’ve got an incredible opportunity to network in the online space.

What I recommend that you do in order to position yourself as someone who is a thought leader, has influence and adds value, is to start running your own online events.

There are a whole lot of things you can do – like a webinar, summit, Facebook challenge or one-day online workshops.

This helps you raise your positioning which can open up opportunities for you to be a guest speaker in other people’s spaces.

I’ve done about seven of these during this pandemic season. People have asked me to come on their podcasts, and I’ve done a range of summits and talks.

Put yourself out there by showing up online with value, so that you’re more likely get invited to be a guest speaker about your expertise.

It really gives you exposure and expands your reach. It puts you in touch with other audiences and networks. If you don’t have a big email database, then you want to tap into other people’s communities.

The reason I get invited is that people have gotten to know me, because I’ve built a Facebook group and a YouTube channel and I’ve consistently put out content. That’s when you start to really extend your networks and people start inviting you to speak and introducing you to their networks.

Number 4 –  Develop Your Key Skills  

There are five main skills that I recommend that you develop if you want to future-proof your business.

1. Marketing Skills

Marketing skills are so important and investing in these skills will only help your business.

Be honest and rate yourself on a scale of 1-10 regarding how good you are at marketing, how good you are at attracting clients and running Facebook adverts. If your skills are on the lower end of the scale, then invest in some marketing training.

2. Sales Skills

How good are you at having sales conversations and being able to connect, engage and influence people? How good are you at getting money into your bank account by these conversations? If this is an area you are lacking in, then up-skill in sales.

3. Copywriting Skills

Having the ability to write in a way that draws people in is a key skill. How good are you at writing landing pages, sales letters, emails, captioning your social media posts? Rate yourself on a scale of 1-10. If you are on the lower end, then up-skill in copywriting.

4. Your Ability to Present

Your ability to speak on camera is key. Being engaging, building rapport and connection is important for future-proofing your business.

Being able to stand up in front of a group and present is a skill that if you can do it, you will easily be able to get clients  and you will also position yourself as an expert authority.

5. Technology Skills

Developing your tech skills is so important. Learning how to create funnels, put together landing pages, set up Zoom, synch your emails and calendars are important tech skills that are needed in business at this time.

I recommend that if things aren’t working for you, if you know that you’re not making as much money as you want to and don’t have as many client’s as you want, then commit to up-skilling to future-proof your business.

5 –  Build a Growth Mindset

A growth mindset embraces challenges. It loves a good challenge! That’s the entrepreneurial mindset. When problems come along, you don’t get dramatic, you don’t get emotional, you don’t get stuck in the problem, you don’t blame others and you don’t make excuses.

You are on! You’re switched and when the challenge comes, you know you’ve got this! This is a growth mindset. There are a lot of people that start in business and don’t make it, because they’ve got a nine-to-five mentality. They’ve got a fixed mindset.

It’s so important that we keep up-skilling and investing in our businesses, because businesses are an asset.

5 Of The Best Ways To Market Your Services At The Moment

I think you would agree that the way we do business has changed dramatically for many of us recently!

Things are shifting and changing in the online world and the way we do our marketing.

When it comes to business, we need to be able to roll with change, be flexible and be adaptable in order to keep growing and succeeding in our goals.

It’s important to make sure that we keep up-to-date with what’s happening in business and in own individual industries so we don’t get left behind.

Here are 5 of the best ways to market your services online during these changing times:

Number 1 – Consistent Content

 

The first way that I recommend that you market your services at the moment is by doing consistent content. There are three main things that you’ve got to make sure with your content.

The first one, you’ve got to make sure that it’s original. So you don’t want to just be reposting other people’s posts you don’t want to just be putting up quotes.

You need to be making unique content that is in your unique voice, using your tonality  and stories of your experiences.

That’s why people will follow you as opposed to just downloading information from the internet, they want to get to know you, they want to know your skills, your experience, your knowledge, your unique combination of personality and style.

Make sure that your content is original, relevant and targeted to your ideal client and niche.

This is always one of the first steps that I take with all of my clients, to help them to make sure that they have nailed their niche – that their niche is really tight, because if you don’t have a tight niche, you’ll be competing with everyone.

If you’re a coach for example and you just call yourself a life coach, it is way too broad in general and it will be very hard for you to be a master, being an expert in one thing.

You also want to make sure that your content is consistent, regular and targeted to your ideal client.

If you stick to your ideal client, to your brilliance and genius zone, you’ll be able to post so much content because you know it and don’t have to research it.

Ideally you need to be getting on a camera. I know it can be scary but it’s a must in your business, especially in the age that we’re in, we cannot afford to hide anymore.

If you want your business to grow, if you want to get more pay clients, you need to be able to present yourself on video.

Number 2 – Client Attraction Funnels

 

A funnel is a process that leads someone from not knowing you at all, to nurturing them and them getting to know, like, and trust you, and for some people, eventually becoming a paid client.

If you want to automate your marketing and have a consistent stream of leads coming in, you need to make sure you’ve got a funnel that leads them through the process and we can do this in an automated way, while also providing an exceptional client experience.

Even though a lot of the steps are automated, you’ve got to make sure your client has an excellent experience.

I teach how to automate all of these steps in my accelerator program, so that you can start to remove yourself a bit from all the manual tasks and have more freedom.

Initially, it takes work to set up funnels where for example, you might set up a landing page and you offer people a great downloadable free guide, cheatsheet or checklist.

It’s something of value that takes your client from A to B. Your paid program is taking them from A to Z, but your free offer that goes into your funnel might take them from A to B.

Your ideal client opts in, they put their name and email in, and then you continue to nurture them and provide value.

This nurture process builds trust and establishes connection with your ideal client and as they move through the funnel, they become a paid client.

You give value to them through the process, through your emails, Facebook lives and other educational content that you create.

Social media activity has increased by 70%, according to one statistic that I read. There are SO many eyeballs that have migrated online.

And if you don’t have a funnel to capture people, you’re getting left behind. You’re literally leaving money on the table, and people that you can help have been left behind as well.

So that’s the client attraction funnel.

Number 3 – Crafted Webinars

 

With crafted webinars, there’s a whole specific way of doing it to get paid clients.

You need to create really valuable content and present it for free, but also it’s important that that you’re not over-teaching.  You show people a section of what you can help them with, but that’s just one piece of the puzzle.

In the webinars you show people how to get from A – B,  but you lead people from your webinar into making them an offer of your signature system or program which takes them from A – Z.

Make  sure that you’re really clear that if they want the support and accountability and if they want the online community,  it’s your signature program that they will get that in.

Webinars are so popular at the moment, and the people doing them are absolutely smashing it.

I did my first webinar in 2016 and it was one of the most scary things I’ve ever done. I actually found it harder than running live events because of my fear of technology.

But I pushed through and now I’ve done hundreds of them. I really love them and they are super effective.

If you’re willing to step up and learn you will be ahead of your competitors, because it requires you to face rejection, fear and self-doubt.

It’s not an easy path, but most of your competitors are taking the easy path, because it’s the path of least resistance..

Doing crafted webinars well can separate you from your competition and is a fast way to attract new clients.

Number 4 –  Create Community Online

 

If you’re a leader or a business owner don’t just hang around in other people’s Facebook groups. Have your own Facebook or LinkedIn group and build your own community.

Having your own group means you are building your authority and expertise. You’re positioning yourself as a thought leader and as a subject matter expert. And it’s also a way for you to find out what people are struggling with, what problems people have and what common goals and visions  people have.

These communities  become a really supportive, beautiful space. It’s not the easy road and you have to be consistent with your content and that means you have to show up, whether you feel like it or not.

It’s about making a commitment. When you do that, everything changes in your business. That’s when things started to change for me, when I got committed to showing up consistently.

Most of my clients now didn’t sign up straight away. (I’ve got 29 clients at the moment). Most of those clients consumed my content they watched me over time.

Only 3% of people are active buyers at any one time. 7% are interested and know that they need to solve a problem.

Which means that around 90% of people that see your online posts are not ready to buy. So having an online community allows you to provide value, nurture people and build trust and rapport over time for when people are ready to buy.

Number 5 – Create Facebook Ads

 

The price of Facebook ads is declining. According to the new New York Times,  Facebook ad prices have declined by about 50%.

According to some other studies I’ve read recently, Facebook ads are the cheapest they’ve been in six years.

Predominately because so many industries have removed themselves from Facebook advertising, like travel, entertainment, hospitality etc.

I also heard recently of a guy who used to invest $1,000 and would get about 40,000 views on a video.

Now he’ll invest half of that, about $500 in Facebook ads and get about 80,000 video views.

So that’s about four times bigger.

You have a unique opportunity right now to maximise this at the moment.

You can build your email list, capture a whole lot of leads for a lot cheaper.

But soon the restrictions are going to be lifted and things are going to change, so there is quite a unique small window that we have right now, before prices start going back up.

The important thing is to make sure that you get your message clear, influential and that it lands to the right people.

So if you want to get more clients, I highly recommend that you pick at least one of these strategies and get going on it straight away.

Crush It In Crisis

You might be thinking “Crush it in crisis? I’m still dealing with the uncertainty, let alone crushing it!”

I hear ya. So let me define what I mean by crush it.

Firstly, what ‘crushing it’ is NOT:

* Being insensitive about people’s current situation

* Profiteering from people’s struggles

* Focusing on your goals at all costs

What ‘crushing it’ IS:

* Thinking like a successful business owner and being brave as a leader in these uncertain times

* Making necessary pivots in your business methods, delivery, packaging and messaging

* Crushing your fears so you can grow in this challenging season (IF you want to!)

Journeying through a crisis time, especially one that’s completely new can create a range reactions.

Some of you want to stay in bed, pull a blanket over our heads and try to avoid what’s going on.

Many people have told me they are wondering at the moment…

“Should I be retreating back or pausing my business goals until all of this is over?”

This is fair to consider, since there is so much uncertainty at the moment.

Let’s acknowledge the fact that the way we need to do business now in this current economic climate is different.

Things have changed and for most of us, our business needs to change as well.

But if you want to crush it, I encourage you to step up, pivot your business where you need to – and jump into all the opportunities that are available you.

I believe that the world NEEDS us as authentic, heart-centred business owners to continue to operate our businesses…

…IF our products and services genuinely provide a REAL solution to a REAL problem.

The only way to do this is to keep offering our help to people who want and need what we offer.

Many people still WANT to buy what you’re offering.

People are not going out and spending money on entertainment, dining out, travel etc. And they’re at home online.

Many people still need your help. And people often don’t value what they don’t invest in.

People pay for what they truly want and need.

Despite the uncertain times we are living in, we can be absolutely certain about ONE thing at the moment…

…ONLINE is THE way.

We have NO choice BUT to be effective online if we want to survive in business.

Here are 5 skills you need to utilise in this time to make consistent money online:

Number 1: The Skill of Providing Value

Providing value is the Number 1 skill you need to have in business.

Value is not necessarily monetary value. It is not always about money changing hands, but it’s still an exchange.

It’s the value you are giving to those who invest in you, whether that is someone paying for your time or if it’s someone opt-in to an email.

What is it costing your ideal clients in their time, money, energy and attention? Are you giving value by being helpful and relevant?

Are you speaking directly to your ideal client, not just to the masses? Are you speaking to the people who you can really help with your level of mastery?

If you can show up and be genuine and give quality information, then you’re adding value. Remember quality, not quantity.  This includes your free offers, and also your paid clients and those who are a part of your paid community.

Number 2: The Skill of Copywriting

The Number 2 skill you need at this time to make consistent money is the skill of copywriting and now is a really good time to learn this skill.

Copywriting is a very underrated skill and it affects your ability to influence people positively through your writing online.

All your Facebook ads, your blogs and captions need to be influencing, engaging and providing value. These are what help people take the next step towards you.

A good investment in the next 30 days is to consume copywriting education and focus on increasing your copywriting skills.

Number 3: The Skill of Presenting

The third skill you need is the ability to present. This could be presenting an offer to a one-on-one client on a phone call. It could be presenting on video, which is what we all need to be doing at the moment in this socially distanced world we are currently living in.

How good are you at your presentation skills and your ability to craft words, videos and webinars?

Number 4: The Skill of Marketing

The Number 4 skill we need to boost our business presence online is marketing. Marketing is your ability to attract clients through social media, blogs, emails and other platforms and channels.

At the moment we don’t have a lot of offline options, so online is where we need to shine.

Number 5: The Skill of Sales

Sales is your ability to get money into your bank account and to get people to pay you.

It doesn’t matter how amazing you are at providing value, at marketing and doing pretty posts or creating amazing pieces of content. If you can’t get someone to actually part with their money, then your business is going to fail.

Think about the above skills and give yourself a score from zero (meaning you’re really bad at these skills) or a 10 -which means you know you can’t get any better.

5 Actions You Can Take To Crush it in Business

Number 1: Cut Back on News and Social Media

I recommend you cut back on the news and social media that you are consuming.

Please stay informed, be healthy and know what’s going on and don’t put your head in the sand.

But check-in with yourself and be honest with yourself with how much time are you spending consuming media.

We need to be bringing inspiring, helpful and positive messages to our eyes and ears during this period.

If you’re digesting things that cause you to worry, drop your confidence or cause your mood to drop, then that’s a sign that you need to cut back and protect yourself.

Your confidence and emotional wellbeing is so important in business. It will make you or break you.

Number 2: Create Daily

Spend your time and energy on daily creation. Just show up and write, show up and practice your videos everyday.

When we create and produce during this crisis, we will crush it, because we’ll feel good about ourselves. We will feel purposeful as humans because we were designed to create.

Focus on quality, not quantity. It doesn’t mean going live on Facebook every day. It doesn’t mean writing a blog post every day either. It just means writing or speaking every day and focussing on improving your skills.

I recommend that you focus on video during this crisis season, because people are craving connection even though it’s through a screen.

Number 3:  Get your Marketing Funnels Live

The Number 3 way to crush it in this crisis is to get your marketing funnels going live as soon as possible, even if they’re not perfect.

You might need to create a freebie like a downloadable guide or a cheat sheet.

Focus on making it relevant, helpful and VALUABLE – and get it up there and start building your email database.

This is one of the best ways for you to leverage your time and help more people.

Start running online events for people if you haven’t been doing that already. You know enough about your topic to help people right now.

Number 4:  Focus on Getting ONE Thing Finished

I’ve talked to quite a few people this week who have started a lot of things and not finished them.

We need to develop blinkers and get the thing we started completed before we move on to the next challenge.

People don’t pay for a half built bridge. They pay for a FULLY built bridge.

Please don’t be tempted to start a book and then move on to starting a podcast, and then move on to a five-day challenge then a webinar. Finish one thing.

Focus and finish!

Number 5:  Choose ONE skill to develop

Developing your online skills is one of the most valuable things you can do at the moment.

I recommend that for the next 30 days, focus on ONE of the 5 skills.

Or maybe you want to dive deep on one of the skills for 7 days. Consume all the books, articles and podcasts on that one skill.

Pick the skill that is your weakest link or the skill that’s most holding you back.

Remember, if your service is helping someone improve their life, then there’s no reason why you shouldn’t show up and offer it. And in fact, if you don’t, you can’t help anyone.

You’re improving people’s lives and it’s a value exchange, so do not feel guilty about offering what you offer – IF it’s ethical, authentic and genuinely helps people get a real result.

Remember, we don’t have a lot of certainty about a lot of things at the moment, but we do have certainty that business is now ONLINE.

If you haven’t got marketing funnels in place, then that is one of the most important things that I strongly recommend you focus on during this time, is creating a funnel.

Having a good marketing funnel gives you an ability to capture people and continue to nurture them and provide value and help them.

Due to the amount of people online during this time, we need  to make sure that we stand out.

We also need to make sure that we get people away from our social media pages and onto our email lists. This gives us control of sending marketing material, nurturing and providing great value to people.

A marketing funnel is a series of steps that takes someone from being a stranger into a client. A marketing funnel is the number 1 asset you need to make money online.

If social media suddenly crashed and you didn’t have access to your friends and followers, how are you going to market yourself?

Your email database is one of THE most important assets in your business.

A funnel will help bring people into your email list and from there you can continue to market to them for weeks, months even years to come.

Building a marketing funnel and getting it live is one of the essentials for your business to survive and thrive in this crisis.
