“How do I find my ideal clients online?”
I get this question a lot from coaches.
Here’s the answer: They are around you right now.
They’re already on your friend list and following you. The problem isn’t finding them; it’s that your content is not compelling them.
So, instead of asking, “Where can I find clients?” ask, “How can I engage the potential clients in my audience?”
Adding more people to your friend list or group won’t help if your content is not compelling the people you already have.
If your content isn’t resonating, the problem is not that people don’t want what you offer.
It’s likely because your content is not communicating in a way that makes people see you as someone who can solve their problem.
Or you’re not communicating in a way that compels your ideal clients to take action.
Are you spending hours on content creation, and feeling overwhelmed or frustrated by it not leading to clients?
In this video, I’ll show you exactly how to shift from struggling with content to consistently generating new leads.
Here are 3 ways to create content that attracts your ideal clients and sells out your launches.
1. Master the art of compelling language
Compelling language makes people stop and look.
Repelling language makes people scroll past.
There are certain words and phrases that compel your ideal clients and certain words and phrases that repel them.
What makes language compelling?
It appeals to the subconscious desires that your audience has.
A Harvard study showed that 95% of our buying decisions are made subconsciously.
There are loads of subconscious desires that already exist in the minds of our ideal clients.
There are words and phrases you can use that trigger an emotional response.
So, what I do, is have a messaging document, all my clients do as well, and it has them all in one place. So that’s our go-to when it comes to creating content.
There are 4 driving forces that compel people to take action
- Frustrations
- Fears
- Desires
- Dreams
A lot of people think they know their ideal clients, but when I look at their content and ask them: “Do they actually say those words to you?”, in a lot of cases, they don’t.
A lot of people are getting their language from AI now, not from the actual humans in the way the say things.
And this can be tricky to do if you’ve been working in your industry for a while because we can forget the actual language that we used before we learned everything we know now.
To make content more compelling, add curiosity, surprise, and specificity. Make it tangible so people can imagine it.
Here are a few simple examples of content that I’ve made some tweaks to, to make it more compelling.
BEFORE – ‘3 Ideas For Healthy Lunches’. You might make some content like this is you are a health coach. It does the job, but it’s a bit bland.
AFTER – ‘3 Instant Cures For Boring Healthy Lunches.’
It’s a very simple tweak, but makes a big difference.
This is a simple example that shows you just how easily you can take some words and just make a headline pop.
BEFORE – ‘How To Be More Effective At Content Creation.’ This is fine. It does the job. But just adding a fine tweak we can make it stand out.
AFTER – ‘5 Surprising Ways To Make Your Content 3x More Engaging
Our brains love surprise. our brain loves novelty. The brain also loves curiosity, so using the word ‘surprise’ hooks people in.
BEFORE – ‘I’ll show you how to set goals for your relationship, and make sure they happen.’
AFTER – ‘You’ll pick up my unique relationship reset roadmap so you can finally achieve the deep connection you want to have with your partner.
When you name things and make them a formula, a roadmap, a blueprint, a method or pillars, you’re organising your knowledge and you’re putting a framework around it.
This adds curiosity and also appeals to the need we have for organised, structured knowledge.
When you structure and name your resources, they are no longer just tips, they become a tangible tool.
BEFORE – ‘I’ll show you how to create a successful bedtime routine’
AFTER – ‘Learn my proven strategies for a successful bedtime routine, so you can finally enjoy tear-free story time every night.’
Little tweaks can make a huge difference.
2. Share pain killers not vitamins
A vitamin is something that’s good for you. We take them for a future health benefit.
Often we forget to take them
We think we should
We don’t notice if we miss it
It’s preventive
Vitamin content is missed. It makes people tune out.
If you have an extremely debilitating headache, you don’t need reminding or convinced or advertised to – you go looking for a pain killer.
What is the pain your people are in?
What is the pain killer that your clients are looking for?
And how can you provide that for them?
That’s when people stop on your content.
To create pain-killer content that people consume, share in a way that shows people why they need something they currently don’t have.
3. Help People Overcome Barriers to Action
One of my clients said to me once; “Kat, I’m thinking I need to post more funny stuff on my Facebook business page, because the funny stuff gets the most likes.”
I’m not sure if you’ve fallen into that trap before, but engagement is not the goal.
Engagement (while it helps some) isn’t everything. The most important question is whether you’re getting actual CLIENTS from your content.
Attention does not mean sales. The more attention you have, is there a greater possibility that it makes sense we have more eyeballs on you? Absolutely.
Some of my clients have referenced content of mine as the reason why they signed up with me. And some of that content that got very little engagement (and that they themselves didn’t engage with)
So, the first step is to get more eyeballs on us, but then we have to keep them there.
You want to ensure your content helps people to actually take action to change their life, not just to entertain them.
‘How To’ videos are everywhere on the internet. It’s the most searched term on Google. But we’ve got to remember, that it’s not just about people learning, it’s about people doing. It’s about people taking action on what you’re teaching them.
When you’re thinking about your content, ask yourself;
‘How can I help people overcome their resistance to making a change?’
‘How can I have them overcome their biggest objections to taking action on what I’m sharing?’
Creating compelling content is a skill use your content to overcome them. And it’s a skill that anyone can develop.
