Are you finding it increasingly hard to get engagement with your online content?
Do you find it almost impossible to stand out and find it hard to keep up with everyone else?
You know the feeling... you put a post on Facebook and you're waiting for the engagement... and it never comes?
* You wonder how to get noticed in a sea of noise on social media
* You get confused with all the different methods out there and want a simpler way (what the heck is an algorithm anyway?!)
* You've downloaded guides, and watched Webinars and YouTube videos about it, but your following is still the same (no matter how many hashtags you use!)
I totally get it.
I used to post on social media all the time, spending loads of time and effort, because I knew that social media is so crucial...
But I still wasn't getting clients.
I didn't have the correct strategy.
After a lot of trial and error, I finally realised that there is a better way to do it, that changed everything for me.
People started reaching out to me consistently. No chasing people!
I started attracting dozens of my ideal clients, effortlessly.
People started reaching out to me consistently.
So I created a 5-step strategy to attract clients using social media that works incredibly well for service-based business owners.
I applied it in my own business and it was a game-changer for both me and my clients.
In this blog post, I'll be sharing the first step in the 5-step strategy: IDENTIFY
The first step in attracting our ideal client is that we need to identify EXACTLY who our ideal client is.
There are 3 main problems that people face when it comes to identifying their ideal client.
The first problem is that they are not specific enough.
A lot of people do random stuff on social media.
They often put up what is going on in their life, or a spontaneous thought they had, without any strategy or planning behind it.
Many times, the MESSAGE doesn't match the MARKET. And this is where they go wrong.
A lot of entrepreneurs aren’t clear on who their ideal client is.
The second problem is they don’t REALISE that they’re not clear on who their ideal client is.
They think they are, so they don’t spend time on it. But more often than not, it’s actually very vague.
I can’t tell you how many people I’ve spoken to who tell them their ideal client is someone who is 25 – 45 years old who lives in Sydney.
Well, that’s a heck of a lot of people and for SURE they aren’t all going to be attracted to what you’re offering.
The more we REALLY understand what drives, attracts and turns off our clients the more we can speak to them in a way that resonates with them.
The third problem I see people facing is that they are trying to appeal to more than one ideal client or avatar.
I did this for a number of years, despite advice from my Business Coach at the time not to (I hang my head in shame!), and it was soooo confusing – to both me and my market!
The problem was, I wanted to work with too many different people. I wanted to appeal to both entrepreneurs as well as
Effectively, I wanted to do both mindset coaching and business coaching.
I’m not saying you can’t do both – and I certainly still do both, but I don’t MARKET to both avatars at the same time.
I now have ONE clear avatar who wants help growing their business AND also needs help with their mindset.
So the very first step to attracting your ideal clients on social media is to decide your ONE IDEAL client – your avatar.
I can’t tell you enough how important it is to narrow your attention and focus on ONE target market (at a time).
Many people start creating offers or content before they are clear on the ONE type of person that they want to attract.
This is a huge mistake that I see all the time. It is SO worth doing this work up front – it will save you a lot of time later!
Take your time really getting clear on this person and understanding them.
It will help you in every aspect of your marketing, including your sales letters, lead magnets, and all of your content creation.
Are YOU (or were you) your ideal client?
As much as we need to “know” our target market, it can be challenging!
The chances are you started your business because you were passionate about helping people solve a problem or achieve a goal that you had.
So if you are having trouble describing your “ideal client,” start where you are and use yourself as your “ideal client.”
It’s very likely that you are looking to do business with people who are just like you - they love what you love and care about the things you do.
The more specific you can be, the better.
Write down their demographics, geographics and psychographics (such as their character, fears, dreams and problems).
Once you’ve done that, I have a very helpful and simple process to help you decide if this is the best avatar for you.
Run your avatar through this checklist to help you find your PEEPS:
P – Passion
Are you passionate about helping this type of person? Like, really passionate?
E – Experience
What’s your experience in helping this person solve the problem they have and experience the results they want?
E – Eagerness
What is THEIR eagerness for the topic/subject/solution?
It’s important to be passionate about it, but if no-one wants what you’re offering, you don’t have a business
P – Profitability
This is crucial. If people can’t afford you, they’re not your PEEPS - yet. Once you have achieved your financial goals to keep yourself afloat with the lifestyle you’re happy with, you can start to invest time in people who don’t have money.
But you can’t help anyone before you’ve filled your own cup first.
Otherwise, you’ll be stuck in a job and unable to make the large impact you know you’re here to make
S – Skills
How skilled are you to help these people? Do you feel confident you can take them from where they are to where they want to go? Do you have evidence or proof of this?
If you said yes to all 5 of these checkpoints, it’s very likely you are a candidate for a profitable business.
In my next blog post, I’ll unpack step 2 of the client attraction formula.
I'm sharing the full 5-Step client attraction formula in more depth at my FREE MeetUp coming up in Sydney on Thursday, 9th May at 6pm.
It’s all about how to attract your ideal clients using social media.
